Overview:

Your Kilimanjaro adventure starts with a pickup from your hotel in Arusha. After meeting your guide, you’ll be driven to Marangu Gate to begin your trek. Hike through the rainforest and then ascend to Horombo Hut. This day introduces you to Kilimanjaro’s diverse environments and prepares you for higher altitudes.

Activities:

  • Pickup: Meet your guide at your hotel in Arusha.
  • Transfer: Drive to Marangu Gate.
  • Hiking: Trek from Marangu Gate to Horombo Hut.

Hiking Details:

  • Distance: 20 km
  • Duration: Approximately 7-9 hours
  • Altitude Gain: From 1,800 m to 3,700 m

Highlights:

  • Forest and Moorland: Traverse from lush rainforest to moorland with unique alpine flora.
  • Acclimatization: Start adjusting to the higher altitude.

Accommodation: Horombo Hut

Overview:

On the second day, start with a trek from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut, located near the base of the summit. This day involves a significant ascent through the alpine desert. After reaching Kibo Hut, descend back to Marangu Gate. Upon arrival, you’ll be transferred back to Moshi for a restful night at the Senator Hotel.

Activities:

  • Hiking: Trek from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut and then descend back to Marangu Gate.
  • Transfer: Drive back to Arusha and check in at the Senator Hotel.

Hiking Details:

  • Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut:
    • Distance: 10 km
    • Duration: Approximately 5-6 hours
    • Altitude Gain: From 3,700 m to 4,700 m
  • Kibo Hut to Marangu Gate:
    • Distance: 28 km (10 km to Horombo Hut, then 18 km to Marangu Gate)
    • Duration: Approximately 8-10 hours (including descent)

Highlights:

  • Alpine Desert: Experience the stark, barren landscape near Kibo Hut.
  • Descent: Enjoy descending through different vegetation zones back to Marangu Gate.
  • Rest: Relax and recuperate at the Senator Hotel in Arusha.
