Overview: Your Mount Meru adventure begins with a pickup from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. After meeting your guide, you’ll drive to Momella Gate, where your trek officially starts. From the gate, you’ll hike through lush montane forest to Miriakamba Hut.

Activities:

  • Pickup: Meet your guide at your hotel.
  • Transfer: Drive to Momella Gate (approx. 1-2 hours).
  • Hiking: Begin your trek from Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut.

Hiking Details:

  • Distance: 10 km
  • Duration: Approximately 4-5 hours
  • Altitude Gain: From 1,500 m to 2,500 m

Highlights:

  • Montane Forest: Experience dense forest, spotting wildlife such as colobus monkeys and various bird species.
  • Initial Acclimatization: Gradual ascent helps your body adjust to higher altitudes.

Overview: Hike from Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut, situated between Mount Meru and the summit. This day allows for acclimatization while enjoying stunning alpine scenery.

  • Hiking: Trek from Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut.

  • Distance: 8 km
  • Duration: Approximately 4-5 hours
  • Altitude Gain: From 2,500 m to 3,570 m

  • Alpine Scenery: Experience beautiful alpine landscapes and rugged terrain.
  • Acclimatization: Saddle Hut provides a good base for acclimatization before the summit attempt.

Overview: Start your ascent to Uhuru Peak early in the morning to catch the sunrise. After reaching the summit and enjoying the views, descend back to Miriakamba Hut for a rest.

Activities:

  • Summit Attempt: Depart from Saddle Hut in the early morning for the summit.
  • Descent: Return to Miriakamba Hut for rest.

Hiking Details:

  • Distance: 7 km to the summit, then 8 km back to Miriakamba Hut
  • Duration: Approximately 6-7 hours to the summit, 3-4 hours descent
  • Altitude Gain: From 3,570 m to 4,566 m (Uhuru Peak), then descend to 2,500 m

Highlights:

  • Summit Sunrise: Enjoy a breathtaking sunrise from Uhuru Peak.
  • Descent: Return through varied landscapes and dense forest.

Overview: Complete your descent from Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate, where you will conclude your trek. You’ll then be transferred back to Arusha for relaxation or onward travel.

  • Transfer: Drive back to Arusha.

  • Duration: Approximately 3-4 hours
  • Altitude Loss: From 2,500 m to 1,500 m

  • Final Descent: Reflect on your accomplishments as you descend through the lush forest.
  • Return Transfer: Enjoy a comfortable transfer back to Arusha.

  • Breakfast: At Miriakamba Hut.
  • Lunch: Packed lunch during the descent.

  • Drinking water will be provided.
