Begin your Kilimanjaro adventure with a pickup from your hotel in Arusha. You’ll drive to Marangu Gate and start your trek. The hike from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut introduces you to the lush rainforest environment of Kilimanjaro’s lower slopes, providing a gentle introduction to the trek.

Activities:

  • Transfer: Drive to Marangu Gate.
  • Hiking: Trek from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut.

Hiking Details:

  • Distance: 8 km
  • Duration: Approximately 4-5 hours
  • Altitude Gain: From 1,800 m to 2,700 m

Highlights:

  • Rainforest Trek: Walk through the dense rainforest, with opportunities to see colobus monkeys and various bird species.
  • Initial Acclimatization: Start adjusting to the altitude in a scenic setting.

Overview: Trek from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut, experiencing a transition from the rainforest to the moorland zone. This day is crucial for acclimatization, as you’ll be climbing to higher altitudes while enjoying the unique alpine vegetation.

Hiking Details:

  • Distance: 12 km
  • Duration: Approximately 6-7 hours
  • Altitude Gain: From 2,700 m to 3,700 m

Highlights:

  • Moorland Zone: Witness the change in vegetation, including giant groundsels and other unique alpine flora.
  • Acclimatization: Optional afternoon hike to “Zebra Rocks” to help with altitude adjustment.

Accommodation: Horombo Hut

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Drinks: Drinking water will be provided.

Overview: Descend from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate, completing your trek. This descent provides a final opportunity to enjoy Kilimanjaro’s diverse landscapes. After reaching the gate, you will receive your summit certificate and be transferred back to the Senator Hotel in Arusha for a well-deserved rest.

  • Duration: Approximately 6-7 hours
  • Altitude Loss: From 3,700 m to 1,800 m

  • Final Descent: Enjoy the vibrant rainforest as you descend, reflecting on your journey.
  • Celebration: Receive your summit certificate and celebrate your trek.
